What Are Typodont Teeth?

Typodont teeth are replaceable teeth made of plastic used to practice dental procedures and restorations. They are meant to be placed inside a typodont model.

A typodont is a specialized model made of plastic that simulates a patient's mouth. The typodont can be held freely or placed on top of a table while practicing. However, it can also be placed inside a dummy that simulates the patient's head and torso. This provides a more realistic experience and emulates how it would be to work inside the patient's mouth.

Every typodont tooth is replaceable and independent. Therefore, the student can replace just the damaged or restored tooth without having to replace the entire set of teeth.

Regular typodont teeth mimic natural healthy teeth. Nonetheless, some models have special features, such as a portion that simulates dental caries.

How To Replace Typodont Teeth?

Typodont teeth are easy to replace. The student or practitioner simply has to flip the typodont and look for the screws.

Every typodont tooth is held in position with a tiny screw. This screw goes through a small opening in the bottom or base of the typodont into the root portion of each tooth.

Therefore, the student just has to unscrew the restored tooth to remove it, place a new one, and screw it through the same opening.

In some typodont models, the screws at the bottom are covered by a protective soft plastic cover.
