Caries is one of the most frequent oral conditions that affect people worldwide. It demineralizes the teeth' hard tissues and softens them. However, on many occasions, it can be difficult for the clinician to observe these lesions in their initial stages or where the decayed tissue becomes healthy or just affected tissue.
Property identification of dental caries is vital as it tells the dentist when to stop removing tissues and begin filling the cavity.
For this reason, the dentist has to rely on multiple methods to identify caries. One of them is the dental caries detector.
A dental caries detector is a hand-held device that looks and functions similar to a lampu curing LED.
The device emits a bright fluorescent light that makes the teeth look different when it shines upon them. The teeth look green under the dental caries detector light when it is healthy and there is no decayed tissue. However, caries look red under this light. Therefore, indicating where the decayed tissue is located and the healthy tissue begins.
Although the dental caries detector is a reliable tool, the dentist needs to double-check using traditional methods, such as X-rays and visual identification.
