This material releases fluoride. This property turns glass ionomer into an excellent solution for teeth with deep cavities, as it promotes tertiary dentin formation. Nonetheless, it should be later replaced with composite resin as the definitive restoration material.

Glass ionomer can also be used as a cement for dental crowns, bridges, and glass fiber posts.

● Gutta-percha:

Gutta-percha is a rubber-like material that dentists use to fill root canals at the end of endodontic treatments.
